Hyacinth is a psychological horror game that centers on Neo(they/them) after they find themselves alone on a strange train. Follow them as they navigate through surreal train car after surreal train car... and try to find their way home.

Can you hear her voice?

About:

Hyacinth was made in three days by a team of two for Mini Jam 103: Darkness.

For the theme, we were deeply inspired by inner darkness, especially in terms of mental health. Luckily, the limitation, "you are your own enemy," worked out quite well with that in mind! We hope that you enjoy the finished product, especially if you resonate with Neo's story. Remember, things will get better <3

Also of note: we had some troubles getting the program icon to work, so we apologize if it appears as the default :(  If you happen to come across any other bugs, please let us know in the comments!

Features:

  • 15-25 minutes of gameplay
  • One ending with a secret bonus scene to unlock
  • A charming demon to play cards with
  • A constant vague feeling of being out of place
  • Ominous voices. Everywhere.

Controls:

Arrow Keys: Move

Z: Confirm

X: Cancel, Open Menu

Shift: Sprint

Hyacinth vases are save points!

A silly funfact I wanted to share. I completely forgot that the game's name was Hyacinth. For me it was "The game with Neo" lol

It came back to me a few weeks ago, when I bought hyacinths for my windowsill. Now I can say I basically have a piece of the game with me. 😭🥺

This is so sweet omg, thank you so much for thinking of us! I hope your hyacinths flourish <3

just curious, which of the characters / devs are trans?

The main character Neo is nonbinary, and our lead writer Witchrity is trans <3

I skimmed that, sorry! thanks

This was a very lovely game. I like the theme of acceptance and moving in from a loved one. it was shown in a very impactful way in this game.

Cute! The texts in certain bits felt a little too slowed but that's if I'm being nit-picky. The first scenery you walk into is my favorite. It's so pretty :) The way the story was split in sections is really clever!

Thank you for the feedback! The options for adjusting text speed were really limited in the engine we used, unfortunately :( BUT we will definitely keep this in mind for our next projects, the feedback is really appreciated! Thank you for the rest of the kind words as well! We're glad you liked it ^^

I somehow can't pass through the door even though I already typed and can no longer input any character. Whenever I clicked 'OK' it kept telling me to try again. is there anything I missed? I know what I typed was correct so I got really confused t-t

It might be the capitalization! During the jam I only thought to add two case scenarios (all lower case, and only the first letter capital ) which was definitely an oversight on my part. Maybe try that if you haven't already? Sorry for the trouble, but thank you for playing our game!

That may be it! I will try that now. I did not realize that xD. Thank you very much! Love the game as well! <333

No problem, and thank you for the kind words as well! If you're still having trouble with it please do let me know, and I'll see what I can do to fix it! If not, I hope you enjoy the ending <333
